The following was sent to the Jewish Federation's existing donors on December 1, 2015.

With a little oil, the menorah burned for eight full days. When you cook latkes, a little oil gives you a whole lot of flavor. When you support Federation’s Community Campaign, a little gesture creates Chanukah miracles worldwide.

In less time than it takes to prepare latkes, you can make a gift to Federation that will:

  • Help Leon light Chanukah candles in Warsaw’s Jewish Community Center, the city’s first after the ravages of the Holocaust and decades of Communist repression nearly wiped out the community.

  • Provide funding so Shira, a member of Dror Israel’s kibbutz in Akko, can mentor at-risk Jewish and Arab youth, empowering them to succeed as Israeli citizens and leaders.

Pay the electric bill in Daniel’s house, right here in the East Bay, so he doesn’t have to choose between paying for food or keeping the lights on.

The fact is, real men, women, and children need real Chanukah miracles. With a gift to the Community Campaign, you can make these miracles happen. Your gift will make this Chanukah brighter for people everywhere and make this holiday more meaningful for you.

As you prepare for Chanukah, you’ll know that hundreds of thousands of meals are going to Jewish families around the world.

As you light the candles, you’ll know that your gift helps pass Jewish identity on to the next generation.

As your children and grandchildren play with dreidels and open their gifts, you’ll know that other Jewish boys and girls around the world can now do the same.

Most importantly, as your new latke recipe fills your home with a wonderful aroma, you’ll experience the greatest miracle of all — strengthening our community and caring for others.

Please give generously. Don’t forget that your gift is tax-deductible. Please reply using the enclosed pledge card or donate online: jfed.org/donate

Thank you in advance for your gift. Warm wishes for a happy and meaningful Chanukah.

Sincerely,

Nathan Petrowsky, Development Chair
Rabbi James Brandt, CEO
